Do you know how many movies have been made about the Tudors?  Why can’t they make more movies about the Plantagenet or the War of the Roses?  Granted that these movies exist, but the production of these movies were not as much as the movies about the Tudors.   I mean really, I think Eleanor of Aquitaine is as interesting as Anne Boleyn…Which now brings me to the movie The Other Boleyn Girl.

Let me introduce the invasion of the Tudors in present movie life.  First we had a taste of Elizabeth I in 1998 which was followed by a sequel about Elizabeth: The Golden Age just last year.  Because of the popularity and success of these movies, where Elizabeth was perfectly portrayed by Cate Blanchett, the populace, if they’d forgotten or taken the Tudors for granted, were now re-familiarized by the story of this Royal House.

This wave of Elizabeth I is supported by the television series, The Tudors, where again the populace is now made familiar about the character of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn.  I do not think that most people even think about the significance of Henry VIII’s action in the history of England as the show focuses on the love, the politics and the sex involved in court life.

Finally, we have The Other Boleyn Girl.  This movie was just not at par with my expectations.  But then again, whenever has a movie based on a book ever been truly successful, as the readers of the book would always have their complaints.

In any case, The Other Boleyn Girl was a good spin-off of the Tudor movie series as it focuses not on Anne or Henry VIII but on Mary the sister of Anne and the lover of Henry VIII.   However, the movie lacks the proper characterization of the characters.  The movie was trying to cram too much information in a two hour movie.  The triangle between Mary, Anne and Henry spanned an amount of time which encompassed love, sex, relationships and politics.  All of these cannot be truly developed in a two hour movie.  The motivations of Anne Boleyn for her actions were not fully threshed out making her look nothing more than a ruthless, scheming and manipulative trollop.  Mary who has had her experience in politics, manipulation and court life was made to look so innocent but this innocence was not fully founded in the movie.  Finally, the character of Henry VIII was so two dimensional that Eric Bana’s talents were wasted on the movie.  But I don’t think he fully wasted his time though.  I mean… come on… sex scenes with the hottest actresses in Hollywood.

According to Ibeatyou.com Scarlett Johansson is the hottest actress in town and yet a lot of others believe that Natalie Portman is the hottest actress in town.  Who do you think is hotter?  Well it doesn’t matter…in The Other Boleyn Girl, equally hot Bana has both girls.

No matter… after being Mary Boleyn, Scarlett Johansson will come out in another movie about the royalty of England … and yes.. IT IS NOT ANOTHER TUDOR MOVIE… Mary, Queen of Scots, as Mary Queen of Scots.  I mean…THANK GOD FOR THE STUARTS!!!!!
